What Is Burnout?

Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by prolonged overload. It's more than just tiredness – it's a profound state of exhaustion that affects all areas of life.
Typical signs include chronic fatigue despite adequate sleep, increasing distance from work, the feeling of being unable to make a difference anymore, concentration difficulties, and physical complaints such as headaches, back pain, or gastrointestinal problems.
Burnout usually develops gradually. Initially, the overload is still compensated for, but at some point previous coping strategies are no longer sufficient. Many sufferers only realize how exhausted they really are when it's already quite advanced.
In my practice, I don't look at burnout in isolation but in the context of your entire life. Because the causes often run deeper than just the work environment – inner drivers, perfectionism, or a difficult relationship with one's own boundaries often play a central role.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most important questions about burnout and stress therapy.

The line between stress and burnout is fluid. A good indicator: if recovery is no longer sufficient, you feel emotionally distanced, and your performance sustainably declines, this points to burnout. In the initial consultation, we can assess your situation together.
Not necessarily. Depending on the severity of exhaustion, therapy can also accompany work. Sometimes a break is beneficial, sometimes changes in the work routine combined with therapy are sufficient.
Psychotherapy goes deeper and addresses the emotional and biographical causes of burnout. Coaching elements are incorporated where professional changes and strategies are concerned. This combination makes my offering particularly effective.
That depends on your situation. In milder cases, 10-15 sessions may be sufficient; for deeper topics, longer support may be beneficial. We discuss this transparently in the initial consultation.
As a psychotherapist (HPG), I do not bill statutory health insurers directly. Private insurers and supplementary insurances often reimburse costs. I'm happy to advise you on the options.
